Sarah graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, and taught school at John Muir Elementary School in Glendale, California. She married Mark James Silk (b. July 14, 1966; son of Richard Denton Silk and Janet Del Lowrie) on September 26, 1992, at Glendale, Los Angeles County, California. Janet Del Lowrie's second marriage was to Orrin E. Wickersham, who was related to Grace Wickersham.

Mark and Sarah had the following children:

1. Hannah Michelle Silk (1998-).
2. Heidi Lynne Silk (2000-).
