George had an 80-acre farm just to the north of his father, Enoch's, farm. The farm had a two-room house with a lean-to shed on the back. It also had a good well and a cistern system. He married Hannah Jane Shireman (b. March 5, 1863, at Winchester, Illinois; d. In 1899, at the age of 40, he contracted typhoid fever. He was taken to his parent's home, where his mother nursed him until his death. His youngest child was born one month after his death. His oldest daughter, Ruth, remembered that he was tall and handsome and liked to ride a good horse fast. His daughter, Bessie, remembered her father's tool chest, of which he was very proud.
